At Diyafah we strive to offer a front seat towards a possible career choice by supporting students to find meaningful hands-on learning experiences. Internships help them to decide whether they are suited for a specific career within a particular industry or if they should consider other professions.

We prioritize current students at the school and allocate a limited number of seats for external applicants. Applicants are selected based on their predicted IGCSE grades, and those meeting the criteria are invited for an interview.
While priority is given to current school students, admission to the Sixth Form is contingent upon meeting specific entry requirements. These requirements include obtaining six and above IGCSEs at grades A* to B or equivalent, demonstrating a positive attitude towards learning, and maintaining good attendance. For more detailed information, please visit our Sixth Form admissions page.
The school offers a diverse range of 14 subjects at the Sixth Form CAIE /Edexcel AS/A levels and 2 PEARSON BTEC Level 3 qualifications.
These include:
These subjects are organized into blocks, and students must choose one subject from each block, resulting in a combination of 4 subjects in Year 12. In Year 13, students may continue with at least 3 of the four subjects selected in Year 12.
All subjects at our school are taught following the Cambridge International Boards curriculum, except for Mathematics and BTEC subjects, which adhere to the Pearson Edexcel Exam Boards curriculum. For specific details on subject options and combinations, please refer to the subject-options block provided for AS and A levels under the registration tab on the school website and the curriculum booklet here.
The main difference between A Level and BTEC applied courses lies in their assessment methods. A Levels are primarily assessed through external exams, with some subjects incorporating a percentage of coursework, such as Art & Design. On the other hand, applied courses like BTECs Diplomas feature a higher proportion of coursework, typically around 50-60%, alongside some formal external assessment components.
No, BTEC courses are not necessarily easier than A levels; they simply have different demands. With applied courses, students must demonstrate the ability to organize themselves to complete coursework assignments within set deadlines. Additionally, collaboration skills are often essential as many courses require students to work effectively with others. Furthermore, students enrolled in applied courses are typically required to complete project assignments in both years of study. Therefore, while the nature of assessment may differ, both A levels and BTEC applied courses require dedication, organization, and effort to succeed.
Yes, you can still pursue higher education at university with BTEC applied qualifications alongside 2 or 3 A level courses. Most university courses accept these qualifications as entry requirements. However, it's essential to note that some courses, particularly in fields like Medicine and related disciplines, may require high IGCSE and A Level grade as prerequisites. It is advisable to check the university entry requirements on their official website before finalizing your choice of qualifications. This ensures that you meet the specific academic criteria for the courses you intend to pursue.
Absolutely. We have a robust support network available to assist you. This includes your Academic advisors, who are also the Subject Heads, as well as access to our Alumni connections, PALS peer support system, and supportive pastoral care provided by your Form tutors. Additionally, our InspirED wellbeing club, operated entirely by Sixth Form students under tutor guidance, ensures that activities promoting a positive environment are seamlessly integrated into the curriculum, addressing any concerns that may arise. Rest assured, you have a comprehensive support system to help you navigate any challenges you may encounter during your academic journey.
Yes, you have the option to choose an additional subject in addition to the required one from each block. However, for any additional subjects beyond the four, you will be responsible for self-directed study. While you will not have dedicated class time for the extra subject, the subject teacher and subject head will provide assessments and monitor your progress in that subject.
Yes, most students typically take four subjects in Year 12. Following the AS level exams, you may drop one subject and continue with the remaining three subjects through Year 13 to complete your A levels. This flexibility allows students to focus on subjects that are most relevant to their intended further studies or career aspirations.
Your timetable will be structured to accommodate the guided learning hours required for each course. The grid below illustrates the amount of contact time teachers will have with learners to deliver each course, measured in guided learning hours per week:
Subject | AS | A level |
Form Time | 4 | 4 |
Subject Option 1 | 9 | 9 |
Subject Option 2 | 9 | 9 |
Subject Option 3 | 9 | 9 |
Subject Option 4 | 9 | 9 |
Physical Education | 2 | 2 |
Arabic A | 4 | 4 |
Islamic A / B/Value Ed | 2 | 2 |
Moral Education | 1 | 1 |
Skills16* | 1 | 1 |
Years 12 and 13 will stay back for an hour after school on two designated days, Mondays and Wednesdays for the next academic year, concluding the workday at 3:30 pm. This extended time will be dedicated to curriculum completion, curriculum enrichment activities, physical education, and career-related initiatives.
While it is possible to apply to universities after completing AS levels, we strongly recommend that students continue completing their A levels. A-Levels are the preferred entry qualification for many top universities and offer the best route for students with an excellent academic record who aspire to study at prestigious institutions such as Oxford, Cambridge, or other Russell Group universities. Additionally, completing A levels helps better prepare you for the academic rigors of university-level studies. Therefore, we encourage students to pursue their A levels to enhance their prospects for university admissions and academic success.
Additionally, if planning to study in the UAE, please note that the Ministry of UAE does not approve AS level qualifications for university admission. It is important to consider this factor when making decisions about your academic pathway.
Attendance is compulsory for Sixth Form students. If a student fails to attend classes, they will be marked as absent. Absences are only considered authorized for valid reasons, as specified in the student planner, and must be confirmed by a signed letter from parents/guardians or supported by official documents to attest for the full duration of the absence.
All Sixth Form students are expected to maintain a minimum attendance rate of 98%. This high attendance requirement ensures that students fully engage with their studies and make the most of their educational opportunities at Al Diyafah.
If your IGCSE grades do not meet your expectations, don't panic. At Al Diyafah High School, if you have received a conditional offer to attend, the following steps will be taken:
In August, after IGCSE results are released, the school will reach out to you and invite you to come in and enroll.
To enroll, you must meet the school's entry requirements. However, if you do not achieve the grades you were hoping for, there may still be a suitable course available for you.
You will be asked to attend an interview with the Head of Sixth form to discuss alternative options.
Based on your grades, and the interview we will determine if you are eligible for an enrollment.
This process ensures that every student receives support and guidance, even if their IGCSE results are not as expected, to find the best path forward for their education and future prospects.
: Is it true that A levels are a lot tougher than IGCSEs?
A: Yes, there is a significant increase in difficulty when transitioning from IGCSEs to A levels. However, our entry requirements are set at a level that reflects our confidence in your ability to succeed at the A level stage if you achieve the required grades in your IGCSEs. While the academic demands may be higher, you are not expected to navigate this challenge alone. We encourage you to seek assistance when needed and to take responsibility for your learning, including engaging in independent study outside of class. By doing so, you can push yourself to achieve higher grades, fostering a sense of accomplishment and better preparing yourself for university and future employment opportunities.
It's natural to feel uncertain about your future career path, but when selecting subjects for A Levels, we advise students to choose subjects they excel in and genuinely enjoy. When you're passionate about a subject, you're more likely to engage with the material and perform well academically. Achieving good grades at A Level opens up a wide range of options for further education and career paths.
Additionally, you can schedule a meeting with our Head of Sixth Form for personalized guidance and support in determining the subjects that align with your interests, strengths, and future goals.
Yes, at Al Diyafah, we have a specific uniform for the Sixth Form, distinct from the rest of the school. Students take pride in wearing their uniforms, reflecting our commitment to professionalism and discipline. The school blazer is a part of the Sixth Form student uniform at Al Diyafah.

For further details or to purchase the uniform, you may refer to the uniform vendor link provided here.
This option is exclusively available to students in Year 13 who have opted for 3 subjects out of 4 and have lessons free towards the end of the day. To exercise this privilege, students must submit a consent form duly signed by their parent or guardian, outlining their transportation arrangements.
However, we strongly encourage all students to utilize their time productively and take advantage of resources such as the library and learning center for private study. It's essential to note that students should remain available for lessons or individual meetings at any time during the school day, which runs from 7:10 am to 2:20 pm.
At Diyafah, we follow a staged assessment route for A levels. Students take the Cambridge International or Edexcel AS Level in one examination series, typically in the May/June session, and then complete the final A Level qualification in a subsequent May/June series.
Under this approach, AS Level marks are carried forward to contribute to the final A Level qualification. It's important to note that students do not have the option to take all papers of a CAIE or Edexcel course in the same examination session. This staged assessment process allows students to progress through the A level qualification in a structured manner, ensuring thorough understanding and preparation for success.
Exam forms are typically filled out in the month of January for students who will be sitting for the exams in June.
For CAIE Board examinations, retakes are available in November and/or May.
For Edexcel Board examinations, retakes can be scheduled for October, January, and/or June.
No, you will need to approach the British Council in Dubai to fill out the retake forms and for the allocation of the examination center. You can find more information regarding this process on their website. For any exam related enquiries pls write to examofficer@diyafahschool.com
Yes, student progress monitoring through internal assessments is an integral part of our academic program. These assessments serve to evaluate student performance and provide valuable feedback to teachers, enabling them to make informed instructional decisions. The schedule for internal assessments is as follows:
Monthly tests – Scheduled in September, October, and January.
Mock Exams – Conducted in December and March.
It is mandatory for all students to participate in these assessments as they play a crucial role in the academic process. The results of these assessments are used by teachers to make grade predictions in subjects. These predictions are important as they assist students in securing places at their first-choice universities.
We encourage students to take these assessments seriously and strive to perform their best, as they contribute significantly to their academic progress and future opportunities.

Al Diyafah High School LLC was founded in September 1982, by Late Mrs. Winnie D’Cunha. It started as a Nursery with only 2 children in a small villa located on Al Diyafah Street, in Dubai. That’s how it got its name.
